The Pīwakawaka, or fantail, Is a small songbird native to Aotearoa (New Zealand). It's distinctive "dance" and willingness to approach people makes It one of the more recognizable and beloved birds of the Islands. According to Māori mythology, It was Māui who gave the fantail It's bulging eyes and erratic dance when he squeezed the bird for not revealing the location of one of his ancestors.

The Koru-inspired by the spiral shape of an unfurling fern, the Koru symbolizes new beginnings, growth, and the vital energy that fosters health, wellbeing, and positive personal development.
Hei Matau- Modeled on the fish hook, The Hei Matau symbolizes abundance, strength, and prosperity — the rewards of a successful day’s fishing. It also represents the securing of good fortune and safe passage across the waters.
Pikorua- The intertwined twist, inspired by two unfurling fern fronds, symbolizes the strength and significance of relationships. It serves as a reminder of the love, mutual support, and connection shared through family, friends, and community.
Toki- inspired by the traditional adze once used for carving and shaping, The Toki symbolizes strength, focus, and determination — qualities essential for creativity and achievement.
The Manaia-depicted with the head of a bird, the body of a man, and the tail of a fish, the Manaia serves as a guardian and messenger between the physical and spiritual worlds. It embodies protection and guidance over the earth, sea, and sky.
Porowhita- With no beginning and no end, the circle is a symbol of eternity and wholeness, and signifies the importance of balance and harmony.
Roimata- The Māori word for “tears,” Roimata symbolize healing, resilience, empathy, and a connection to the land.
I have always been a rock hound and into making "art." On our first trip to New Zealand, my wife and I purchased my first piece of Māori jewelry and I was hooked. When I return home, I started collecting Pounamu (New Zealand greenstone) and jade from around the world to carve into gifts for family and friends.
